A single dental implant provides a fixed replacement for your missing tooth – unlike a removable denture, it stays in place as part of your smile. And because the implant is supported independently, we don’t usually need to cut down healthy neighbouring teeth to support it, as we may need to with a conventional dental bridge.

A dental implant is a small titanium post that is carefully placed into your jawbone to replace the root of your missing tooth.
We then allow time for the implant to heal and become firmly integrated with the surrounding bone. Once it’s ready, we attach a custom-made crown, carefully designed and colour-matched to blend naturally with your smile.

Mike has been placing dental implants since 2010 and has extensive experience in both the surgical placement and restoration of implants. His implant work ranges from replacing a single missing tooth through to full-arch implant treatment.

1. Consultation & digital planning: We start by listening to what you would like to achieve and taking a careful look at your teeth, gums and the space left by your missing tooth. Using our in-house CBCT scanner and optical scanner, we can assess the area in 3D and plan your implant around you.
2. Planning your new tooth: Before we place your implant, we carefully plan its position with your final smile in mind. Where appropriate, we’ll use this digital plan to create a surgical guide to help us place your implant accurately. We use Straumann implants exclusively at Peacock Dental Spa.
3. Placing your implant: Your implant is carefully placed under local anaesthetic. If you’re nervous about treatment, please tell us – we’re very used to looking after anxious patients, and sedation is also available if you need a little extra help to feel comfortable.
4. Time to heal: Your implant is then given time to heal and integrate with the surrounding bone. We’ll keep an eye on you during this stage and let you know exactly what to expect while everything settles.
5. Creating your new tooth: Once your implant is ready, we’ll create your final crown. Its shape, size and colour are carefully chosen to complement your surrounding teeth, before it’s securely attached to the implant.
6. Looking after your implant: Our care doesn’t finish when your new tooth is fitted. We’ll show you how to look after your implant at home and recommend ongoing dental and hygiene care to help keep your implant, gums and the rest of your smile healthy.

This is one of the questions we’re asked most, and often one of the biggest worries before treatment. Your implant is placed under local anaesthetic, so you shouldn’t feel pain while we’re working. If you’re particularly nervous, you’re in very good hands – looking after anxious patients is a big part of what we do at Peacock, and sedation is available if you’d like some extra help to relax.
It’s normal to have some soreness or swelling afterwards while the area heals, and we’ll make sure you know what to expect and how to look after yourself before you leave us.
Dental implants are designed as a long-term way to replace missing teeth, but just like natural teeth, they need looking after. Well-maintained implants can continue to function successfully for many years.
Good cleaning at home, healthy gums and regular professional care all matter. Once your treatment is complete, we’ll show you how to care for your implant and recommend one of our Prescribed Memberships so we can help you look after your implant, your gums and the rest of your smile for the long term.
Lots of people can, but the only way to know whether an implant is right for you is to assess your mouth properly. We’ll look at the health of your teeth and gums and use our in-house CBCT scanner where needed to assess the bone available for your implant.
If bone is limited, that doesn’t automatically mean you can’t have an implant. Depending on your individual situation, shorter or narrower implants and carefully guided placement may sometimes give us other options. Bone grafting is also possible in suitable cases, and if you need treatment that we don’t provide at Peacock, we’ll explain this clearly and refer you to an appropriate specialist.
Every mouth is different, so there’s no one-size-fits-all timescale. In many cases, the implant needs a few months to heal and integrate with the surrounding bone before we fit your final crown. If you need additional treatment first, the whole process may take longer.
That doesn’t mean you’ll necessarily be left with a gap while you wait. Where needed, we’ll discuss temporary tooth options with you so you can keep smiling while your implant heals. In some suitable cases, a tooth can be fitted much sooner – we’ll explain what’s possible once we’ve assessed you.
Both can be excellent ways to replace a missing tooth, and we’ll help you decide which is right for you. One of the big advantages of an implant is that it stands independently in the gap. With a conventional bridge, the neighbouring teeth usually need to be prepared to support your new tooth; with an implant, we don’t usually need to cut down those healthy teeth.
An implant is also fixed in place and replaces the missing tooth root as well as the visible tooth. We’ll talk you through the pros, cons, and costs of your options so you can make a decision that feels right for you.
